M PG

Fritz Lang, Germany, 1931, 117m.

This film was proposed by our Marco Mandolini, who writes: 'My son Milo (13) is an avid film buff and recently saw this with his mum at home and was blown away by it. In his words “M is so good because it’s so ahead of its time and super engaging and influential. The story is brilliant too. It was made in 1931, before the war, and it’s really interesting to see how life was then in Germany. When you watch M you can see so many other films that have stood on its shoulders”. Milo would love to see it on the big screen, as would I!'

M is a 1931 German mystery suspense thriller film directed by Fritz Lang and starring Peter Lorre (in his third screen role) as Hans Beckert, a serial killer who targets children. An early example of a procedural drama, the film centers on the manhunt for Lorre's character, conducted by both the police and the criminal underworld.
