Party Girl 18

Part of Women Aren't Funny
Daisy von Scherler Mayer, USA, 1995, 94m.

Party Girl will be screened with Descriptive Subtitles.
It is part of both our Members' Events and Women Aren't Funny seasons.

This film was proposed by our member Shaad D'Souza, who writes: 'With Parker Posey starring in the third season of The White Lotus this year, I feel like many will be (re)discovering this timeless classic. I’d love to see it on the big screen!'

Although Mary (Parker Posey) has little income, she still finds ways to spend her nights at clubs. After being arrested for throwing an illegal rave, she asks her aunt Judy (Sasha von Scherler) for bail money. Judy then finds Mary a job at her library so that Mary can repay her. Initially, Mary finds the job as a clerk boring and stifling, and prefers to get to know a street food vendor (Omar Townsend) whom she likes. However, Mary must refocus her life once she loses her job and apartment.

We made this movie for ‘the kids’ — as we called them — young people from small towns, who had big dreams, and who weren’t, for whatever reason, conforming to the status quo. Our intention was to nurture them — with style and color, wit and heart, music and dance. I’m happy the film’s out with a re-release, to inspire again — the unconventional path many of us live today. A special shout-out to the librarians, who also enjoy being silly on a dance floor — and while I’m at it, to the art of DJ’ing and other arts that keep us moving and free. - Parker Posey, IndieWire, 2023

Please note, the screening on Wednesday July 3 is our Free Members' Screening, and the screening on Wednesday July 10 is a general public screening.

Please arrive promptly - we do not show adverts.
