To mark the occasion of our upcoming third anniversary, on Saturday 22 March the full day will be filled with films proposed by members, across all three screens. The day will commence with our Pay What You Can family screening of The Last Unicorn. Alternatively, ease your way into proceedings with early screenings of Chantal Akerman’s all-singing, all-dancing, Golden Eighties, Mike Leigh’s terrible holiday Nuts in May, or the classic Preston Sturges screwball comedy, The Palm Beach Story. The afternoon is all about epics. Will you take the arthouse path to The Zone with Stalker, celebrate the romance of film with Cinema Paradiso, or disappear into the shimmering desert in Lawrence of Arabia. Our early evening screenings have been specially selected to get you in the party mood. Get freaky with Rock Hudson in John Frankenheimer’s mind-bending sci-fi Seconds, get hungry with Juzo Itami’s ‘ramen western’ Tampopo, or go to the dogs with Christopher Guest’s genius mockumentary Best in Show. To add to the festivities, tickets to all screenings throughout the day will be just £7.50 each for members and their +1.
Of course, it wouldn’t be a Garden Cinema party without a classic feature: Víctor Erice’s The Spirit of the Beehive. One of the most upvoted titles on the Members’ Area over the last few weeks, the film is a timeless ode to the monsters of cinema and a subversive attack on the real life monsters of Francoist Spain.
For those looking to plot a course through the day, end times for each screening can be found on the individual film pages.
Please note, some screenings will take place in our new Screen 3, which will not yet have step-free access whilst we wait for our platform lift to be installed. Please check the screen number on the seat plan when booking.
