In the Mood for Love PG

Wong Kar-wai, Hong Kong, France, 2000, 98m.

This film was proposed by our members Karen Purchese, Lala Oyegun, and Emma Abotsi, who writes: 'It’s an art piece. A film that is as much about filmmaking as it as about love, longing, living with betrayal and exercising restraint. It’s a film which deserves a big screen experience. Since I didn’t have the chance to see it when it first came out (I was too young and probably wouldn’t have appreciated it back then), I would love the opportunity to see it now and hopefully discuss it with other members'.

In 1962, journalist Chow Mo-wan (Tony Leung Chiu Wai) and his wife move into a Hong Kong apartment, but Chow's spouse is often away on business. Before long, the lonely Chow makes the acquaintance of the alluring Su Li-zhen (Maggie Cheung Man-yuk), whose own significant other also seems preoccupied with work. As the two friends realize their respective partners are cheating on them, they begin to fall for one another; however, neither wants to stoop to the level of the unfaithful spouses.
