Tharlo PG

Pema Tseden, China, 2015, 123m.

This screening is to pay tribute to the Tibetan filmmaker Pema Tseden who sadly passed away on 8 May 2023, and will be introduced by Chris Berry.

Tharlo is an orphan who lives a simple life, but could a brief encounter with a woman in his local town change his life forever?

This is part of the exhibition initiative, Chinese Cinema Project, which showcases works from emerging and under-represented Chinese filmmakers via regular screenings, including new and classic, feature and shorts.

The obituary of Pema Tseden, written by Tony Rayns, can be found on the BFI website.

Additional revenue from the Adult + Donation ticket goes directly to support the Chinese Cinema Project.
