In honour of our season Taiwanese Cinema: Now and Then, we're very excited to be partnering up with Mooboo Bubble Tea, who are equally passionate campaigners for bridging the gap between East and West. They have brought the beloved Taiwanese classic (also known as “black pearl tea” or “boba tea”) to London, with their nearest Covent Garden location just a few minutes walk away, on New Row.
During the members-only social on Saturday 7 September, they will kindly provide us with their delicious bubble tea, prior to the screening of Sean Wang's Taiwanese-American coming of age tale, Dìdi. Whether you are already an avid fan of the refreshing beverage, or are curious to try it, this is a great opportunity to sip (and chew) away, meet some fellow film fans, and enjoy a perfect example of the new generation of Taiwanese filmmaking.

About the film:
Sean Wang’s Sundance-winning, autobiographical debut feature follows a 13-year-old Taiwanese American over one pivotal summer.
In 2008, during the last month of summer before high school begins, an impressionable 13-year-old Taiwanese American boy learns what his family can’t teach him: how to skate, how to flirt, and how to love your mom. In his striking directorial debut, Sean Wang takes us on a kinetic ride through the ups and downs of adolescence, mining personal experience to share a joyful, funny, and deeply affecting ode to first-generation teenagers navigating the beauty and pain of cultural heritage in a sea of conformity. Wang confidently steers us through the freewheeling early days of social media, where AIM emoticons and MySpace rankings carry the weight of heartbreak and friendships forged and broken. Both a moving love letter to immigrant parents and a playful examination of our uncertain paths to adulthood, Dìdi (弟弟) reminds us that growing up and growing into better versions of ourselves are often one and the same.
