Hôtel du Nord PG

Part of Celebrating Film Noir
Marcel Carné, France, 1938, 95m.

Anguished young lovers, fallen women, wanted criminals – all these are found in the Hôtel du Nord, a seedy boarding-house on the banks of a canal in Paris. Their lives collide in Marcel Carné’s bittersweet rhapsody of romance, betrayal, revelry, and violence. Featuring a cast of classic French cinema’s most illustrious stars – including a dissolute Arletty in one of her most iconic roles – Hôtel du Nord is a sublime example of Carné’s celebrated poetic realism, imbuing working-class lives and dramas with a touching nobility.

Cast:
Annabella, Jean-Pierre Aumont, Louis Jouvet, Arletty
