The London Australian Film Society are proud to present an exclusive preview screening of Noora Niasari’s powerful debut feature, SHAYDA.
In mid-90s Australia, Shayda (Zar Amir Ebrahimi – Holy Spider) finds refuge in women’s shelter with her six-year-old daughter, Mona (Selina Zahednia). Over Persian New Year, they take solace in Nowruz rituals and new beginnings, but when her estranged husband re-enters their lives, Shayda’s path to freedom is jeopardised.
Drawn from personal experiences, Iranian-Australian filmmaker Noora Niasari’s exquisite film is a poetic portrayal of courage, compassion and the healing properties of community. Executive produced by Cate Blanchett’s Dirty Films, this thriller-esque drama won the Audience Award in the World Cinema Dramatic Competition at last year’s Sundance Film Festival, and arrives fresh from its UK premiere at the BFI London Film Festival.
Australian snacks and sweets will be on sale, and a raffle will be held before the screening.
