Our weekend of events celebrating the extraordinary films and music of Sally Potter begins with a screening of two of her most musically informed short form works, followed by a conversation between Sally and writer and broadcaster Miranda Sawyer focusing on Sally’s debut album Pink Bikini, her film scores, and much more.
Films Screened:
Play (Sally Potter, 1970, 10 minutes)
An early experimental double screen short film which showcases Sally Potter’s burgeoning interest in the resonant and discordant relationship between sound and image.
Look at Me (Sally Potter, 2022, 16 minutes)
Rehearsals for a fundraising gala become the arena for a struggle between two men; one, the gala director and the other, a richly talented but unstable rock drummer. As their battle for expression and control escalates against a relentless rhythmic backdrop, their public and private selves explosively collide.
Sally Potter has been composing music for her films since her Oscar-nominated Orlando in 1992. Released on 14 July, Pink Bikini is her first studio album, a semi-autobiographical collection of songs about growing up female in London in the 1960s, as a young rebel and activist.
