The Red Turtle PG

Michaël Dudok de Wit, Belgium, France, Japan, 2016, 81m.

Five years after Dutch animator Michaël Dudok de Wit won an Oscar for his short Father and Daughter, he received an email from Studio Ghibli asking if they could work together on a feature film. The result is a beautiful, dialogue free, animated fable about a man shipwrecked on a deserted island who encounters a big red turtle that changes his life.

'★★★★★ This wordless animated fable follows the fortunes of a shipwrecked man on an island – and it’s a masterpiece'- Mark Kemode

'Studio Ghibli's first non-Japanese film is crushingly beautiful and relevant. Magnificent, detailed animation captures the delicate balance and wonder of life, death, and the power of the landscape' - The Guardian

On Saturdays our family screenings are followed by a free activity for children.
