GARDEN CINEMA EVENT

Video Bazaar Presents: Spoorloos 15

Screened in partnership with Video Bazaar
George Sluizer, France, Germany, Netherlands, 1988, 107m.

For a twisted Valentine's Day screening on February 14th at The Garden Cinema, Video Bazaar delves into the realms of passion, obsession, and mystery. Join us as we present George Sluizer's legendary Dutch thriller, Spoorloos AKA The Vanishing.

Two young lovers, Rex Hofman (Bernard-Pierre Donnadieu) and his girlfriend Saskia Wagter (Johanna ter Steege) are on a vacation in France. During a stop at a gas station, Saskia mysteriously disappears without a trace. Devastated by her disappearance, Rex becomes obsessed with finding out what happened to her.

Released in 1988, this Dutch-French co-production is based on the novella The Golden Egg by Tim Krabbé, brother of Paul Verhoeven collaborator Jeroen Krabbé. The film gained international acclaim for its intense storytelling and suspenseful atmosphere that has left audiences haunted for years.

Spoorloos is praised for its ability to create an atmosphere of dread and suspense and its exploration of evil, making it a standout entry in the psychological thriller genre. It's a journey into the unknown, where love, obsession, and mystery intersect into a chilling cinematic experience, so join us at The Garden Cinema for what will prove to be the most unsettling of Valentine's.

This screening is presented by the cult film collective, Video Bazaar, who are proud to present this rarely screened film and are dedicated to bringing the weird, the obscure and forgotten classics to London audiences at The Garden Cinema. Please note this event will feature an intro and a pre-show screening of a mystery short film.
