In celebration of Samhain, Zodiac Film Club presents gothic folk horror fairytale: Viy (1967). Come and join our witchy festivities, with tarot card readings and cocktails at the bar and prizes for best folk horror/dark fairytale/witchy ensembles.
When a priest is ordered to preside over the wake of a young woman in the church of a remote village, he’s shocked to discover the girl is a witch he encountered the night before. Spending three nights alone with the corpse with only his faith to protect him, this whimsical, aesthetically pleasing horror film pits religion against folklore. Come for the dreamy stop-motion ghouls and painterly backdrops – stay for the ‘good for her’ ending.

Beginning with a shared love of horror, pulp, thrills and mystery, Sarah Kathryn Cleaver and Jordan Storm Louise set up the Zodiac Film Club in 2017. We select good looking films, complex female characters and our favourites in forgotten classics, cult and contemporary cinema to share with you. We have written about film for publications and platforms including Dazed Digital and My McQ, and have been featured in i-D, Indie, and Time Out. We have programmed screenings at The Rio, The Castle Cinema, The Curtain Members Club, for brands such as Beyond Retro and in collaboration with Final Girls Berlin Film Festival, Girls in Film and London Short Film Festival.
