We’re very excited to have Annemarie Jacir join us for a remote Q&A after the screening on 13 May to talk about Wajib and her filmmaking career.
Synopsis:
Abu Shadi is a divorced father and teacher in Nazareth. Shadi, his son, arrives from Rome after years abroad to help his father with his sister’s wedding, hand delivering the invitations to each guest per local custom. As the pair spend the day together, the tense relationship comes to a head. Stars Saleh Bakri (The Blue Caftan).
Why we included Wajib in our season:
Annemarie Jacir is undoubtedly one of the most renowned contemporary Arab filmmakers. Wajib stars real-life father and son Mohammad and Saleh Bakri, the two most high profile members of the larger Bakri acting dynasty! Their bickering-heavy car trip is genuinely hilarious at times, and highlights the generational shifts amongst Palestinians. Their arguments echo more universal reflections on changes in radical politics.
Cast:
Mohammad Bakri, Saleh Bakri, Maria Zreik
